The Client:
Christian Hull and The Brag Media / Rolling Stone Magazine.
The Brief:
Create imagery and a layout for Christian Hull's first perfume called "Farqovski" for a full page Ad in Rolling Stone Magazine, including hero product imagery.
The client wanted to look like a glamourous model who's been crying for several days but still needs to do the shoot before they can be left alone.
The Execution:
During the initial meetings, the client expressed a desire to take the well established tropes of perfume Ads, which haven't changed in decades, and twist the genre's visual language to create a gaudy self=aware parody.
The Ad needed to incorporate nods to the client's existing brand and tagline, "Fuck off", which was achieved through the client's hand gesture.
We achieved the gaudy appearance in post by selectively softening and blurring features, referencing the classic Vaseline-on-the-lens look.
After shooting the main image and the product hero, I created the layout to reflect the genre, taking references from the many decades of perfume ads that have come before.
